I recently had an extensive argument because of this very question. Where I live, it's a very well-known "fact" that cold drinks (especially cold soda) makes coughing worse. A while back I broke this rule and went ahead to take a moderately chilled drink; it immediately stopped my coughing and soothed my throat. Informing my family and friends of this, they immediately pounded on me, ranging from "you don't know it yet but it's actually much worse now" to "HOLY SHIT YOU NEED TO SEE A DOCTOR NOW" type of outrage.
I asked a couple doctors I know, and they keep saying that their teacher or "my old family doctor" said so, but eventually most of them admit that they never found any literature on the subject.
Is this really a thing? I've been trying to find research or writing regarding this (which has to exist somewhere given the research I managed to find regarding use of honey and all sorts of weird treatments for cough), but nothing's come up so far.
I didn't find the right solution from the internet.
